چکیده
This paper aims to cast light on contemporary migration rhetoric by integrating historical discourse analysis. I focus continuity and change in conventionalised metaphorical framings of emigration immigration the UK-based Times newspaper from 1800 2018. The findings show that some metaphors persist throughout 200-year time period (liquid, object), are more recent form (animals, invader, weight) while others dropped out use before returning (commodity, guest). Furthermore, we see spread metaphor goes beyond correlation with migrant naming choices both emigrants immigrants occupying similar frames historically. However, analysis also shows cannot be assumed correspond stasis framing evaluation as liquid is shown have been favourable past. A dominant frame migrants an economic resource determined speaker’s perception control this resource.

Bayesian perspective over time
Thomas Bayes, the founder of Bayesian vision, entered the University of Edinburgh in 1719 to study logic and theology. Returning in 1722, he worked with his father in a small church. He also was a mathematician and in 1740 he made a novel discovery which he never published, but his friend Richard Price found it in his notes after his death in 1761, reedited it and published it. But until L...
متن کاملShaping Time: Conceptualizations of Time through Shape Metaphors
Previous research has shown that people represent the abstract concept of time by constructing metaphoric mappings from the more concrete domain of space. Earlier studies have revealed that different spatial metaphorical mapping systems are employed when people think about time (e.g., front/back, ego-moving/time-moving). However, it is possible that the abstract concept of time is also represen...
متن کاملNew space-time metaphors foster new mental representations of time
Can learning new linguistic metaphors foster new nonlinguistic representations? We describe a set of studies in which we trained English-speaking participants to talk about time using vertical spatial metaphors that are novel to English. One group learned a mapping that placed earlier events above and the other a mapping that placed earlier events below. After mastering the new metaphors, parti...
متن کاملProcess Migration over CCNx
Process migration involves moving the running state of a process from one physical system to another, as is commonly done for virtual machines. In this paper, we describe how Content Centric Networking (CCNx) facilitates process migration through an intuitive naming ontology and version checkpointing. 1Computing Science Laboratory, PARC *corresponding author: [email protected]
متن کاملTime-moving Metaphors and Ego-moving Metaphors: Which Is Better Comprehended by Taiwanese?
This is a semantic pilot study which concentrates on how people in Taiwan process the temporal metaphors, ego-moving metaphor and time-moving metaphor. Motivated by the research of Gentner, Imai, and Boroditsky (2002) in which the English native speakers comprehend ego-moving metaphors faster than time-moving metaphors, the present study attempts to reexamine whether the faster reaction to ego-...
